AbstractThe operation of oil- and coal-fired power stations in our environmentally conscious era requires the efficient removal of dust from the exhaust gases. Electrostatic precipitators accomplish this task successfully. This book aims to provide a practical 'hands on' treatment of electrostatic precipitation for the power station engineer. It is also an excellent introduction to the subject for students. The first six chapters explain the basic principles of both tube- and parallel-plate precipitators, and the processes of dust charging and collection. There follows a discussion of the properties of dust, with emphasis on the problems encountered with both high- and low-resistivity dusts. Later chapters deal with electrode design and alignment, and the question of safety for power station personnel. Finally, strategies for the maintenance of existing equipment and the procurement of new precipitators are evaluated.
