AbstractLe Case dei catecumeni furono dalla metà del Cinquecento i luoghi deputati all’istruzione di coloro che desideravano abbracciare la fede cattolica. Attraverso la storia degli istituti per convertiti attivi nei territori della casa d’Este per oltre tre secoli, il volume mira a ricostruire i meccanismi concreti con cui furono amministrati, i risultati effettivamente ottenuti, ponendo attenzione alle motivazioni che portarono alcuni ebrei, spesso mossi dalla povertà, a convertirsi a una nuova fede. / From the mid-sixteenth century, the houses of catechumens were the places designated for the instruction of those who wished to embrace the Catholic faith. Through the history of more than three centuries of these institutions under the House of Este, the volume aims to reconstruct how they were managed, the results they actually obtained, and the reasons why some Jews, often motivated by poverty, converted to the new faith.
